
NASA Trainer to Speak at Honors Picnic
for immediate release Aug. 28, 1997Lisa Spence, a Space Station trainer at the Johnson Space Center, will speak at the fall barbecue for Honors Program students and teachers at Abilene Christian University.Her topic is international cooperation in space exploration. The event is set for Saturday, Sept. 6, at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Allen's Corral Room. "After all the drama of the Mir Space Station this summer, our honors students will be fascinated to hear an insider's view," said Dr. Chris Willerton, director of the Honors Program. Spence trains future Space Station astronauts and mission controllers. She earned a degree in chemical engineering from Arizona State University and worked for the General Electric Nuclear Energy Division and for Celanese Chemical before joining NASA in 1987. She holds master's degrees in computer systems design, public administration and adult education.
