ACU computer science teams top South Central division of Association for Computing Machinest

Two teams of students from Abilene Christian University's Computer Science Department competed at Rice University in the 1998 Association for Computing Machines South Central USA programming contest Nov. 7.

ACU's Team 1 placed first in Division II, and fifth overall. Team 1 members include Rajpaul Bagga, senior from Grand Junction, Colo.; Steve Reynolds, senior from Hawley; and Jeff Wilhite, senior from Garland.

ACU's Team 2 placed second in Division II and sixth overall. Team 2 members include: Alex Dossey, junior from Houston; Matt Lowe, sophomore from Corpus Christi; and Joel Schopp, sophomore from Locust Grove, Okla.

The South Central division is made up of colleges and universities in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. This year's contest was the largest ever with 71 teams from 40 different schools participating.

Faculty sponsors for the teams are Dr. Cary G. Gray and Dr. Mike Frazier.
