Griggs Center to Sponsor Study Abroad in HondurasPosted December 14, 2011
The Griggs Center for Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy and COBA are partnering with Mission Lazarus, a non-profit organization with operations in Honduras, for a study abroad opportunity focused on social entrepreneurship in developing countries.
“We have created a unique opportunity for students to get involved globally, while experiencing the day-to-day operations of a successful, Christ-centered social venture. Students will have the chance to take what they have learned in the classroom and apply it to real-world issues faced by Mission Lazarus,” said Dr. Jim Litton, director of the Griggs Center.
The program will be introduced in the summer of 2012. The course being offered will provide students with knowledge of social entrepreneurship in an international context and the opportunity to be immersed in the operations of Mission Lazarus.
Mission Lazarus, an organization that plants and grows churches while providing foundational services such as healthcare and education, was founded by Jarrod Brown (ACU ’00). Students in the program will work with Mission Lazarus to set up a new business whose primary function will be to bring Honduran products to market in the United States.
As part of this entrepreneurial undertaking, students will meet with business and community leaders in Honduras and visit local entrepreneurs.
Faculty for the course include: Dr. Jim Litton, director of the Griggs Center and Dr. Andy Little, assistant professor of business law. ACU’s Medical Director, Ellen Little, MD, will also participate.
