Five graduates of ACU’s Doctor of Ministry program were selected to present papers at the Academy of Religious Leadership spring conference April 20-22.

Those presenting included Dr. Randall Carr (’15), minister at Abernathy Church of Christ in Abernathy, Texas; Dr. Jimmy Hensley (’16), Bible teacher at Fort Worth Christian School in North Richland Hills, Texas; Dr. Jason Locke (’11), campus minister at Morgantown Church of Christ in Fresno, Calif.; Dr. Ben Pickett (’13), outreach minister at Highland Church of Christ in Abilene; and Dr. Stephen Shaffer (’12), minister at Carbondale Church of Christ in Carbondale, Ill.

Each presentation came from their doctoral thesis and demonstrated thoughtful theological and theoretical reflection that led to specific ministerial intervention and action, said Dr. Carson Reed (’95), director of ACU’s D.Min. program and board member of the Academy for Religious Leadership.

ACU had the largest representation out of the 20 papers selected for the conference, said Reed. Other presenters were from Duke University, Fuller Seminary, Luther Seminary, Trinity Evangelical, Seattle University and Texas Christian University.

Also at the conference, Reed was elected to serve as a co-editor for the Academy’s peer-reviewed journal, the Journal of Religious Leadership, along with Dr. Stephen Sprinkle of TCU’s Brite Divinity School. Reed and Sprinkle will begin their work with the fall edition of the journal.

The Academy of Religious Leadership is an international academic guild of professors, scholars, and practitioners who gather for an annual conference each spring to read papers, interact about what is new in the field of leadership, and deepen theological reflection and innovative theory for the sake of healthy churches and religious organizations.
