The Abilene Christian University Homecoming weekend gets started once again this year with the annual Gutenberg Dinner honoring distinguished alumni from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. This year's honorees include David Stotts, Becky Sundling and Kenny Wilson.
"This year's honorees include individuals whose education in journalism and mass communication has taken them on widely divergent paths," said Dr. Cheryl Bacon, chair of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. "All of them, however, have distinguished themselves professionally and represented our program well in truly global arenas."
David Stotts has combined his passion for movies with an interest in history, science and Bible archaeology to develop a successful career in documentary films. His work has taken him to 27 countries, but he is perhaps best known for his 12-part series on the history of Western civilization titled Drive Thru History.
His award-winning documentaries include The Search for the Real Mt. Sinai, The Mystery of the Ark of the Covenant and Icons of Evolution. Stotts' films have been distributed by Focus on the Family, Tyndale House Publishers, Trinity Broadcasting Network and History International, a sister station to the History Channel.
Stott's graduated from ACU in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in broadcast production and a minor in theatre, and is currently pursuing a master of arts degree in religion from Westminster Seminary in Dallas.
Becky Sundling, a 1991 ACU graduate with a bachelor's degree in graphic design and advertising, has worked in design and technology for Microsoft Research Asia, Microsoft Consulting Services, Amazon.com and several smaller technology companies.
Now working for Microsoft's Healthcare Solutions Group in Beijing, her career has taken her throughout Southeast Asia, including Nepal, Tibet, China and India. She leads a team of graphic designers to conceptualize and create best-of-class healthcare enterprise solutions for both the global and Chinese markets.
Kenny Wilson has used the communications skills learned at ACU to build a successful career in banking. He is currently the president of Bank of America for Central and West Texas. Wilson also serves as market executive for U.S. Trust Bank of America Private Wealth Management for San Antonio and Austin.
Wilson earned his bachelor's degree in 1974 from Abilene Christian in journalism and mass communication. He has worked for Bank of America and its predecessor banks for more than 30 years. Active in the community, Wilson is a member of the board and executive committee of the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce.
He has served as chairman of the board of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, board chair of the Free Trade Alliance in San Antonio, and on the boards of United Way of San Antonio and the San Antonio Museum of Art.
