ACU receives first ever Emmy nomination for "Jacob's Dream" film

Jacobs Dream EmmyAbilene Christian University's "The Making of Jacob's Dream" documentary has been nominated for an Emmy Award in the Texas chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Winners will be announced during a gala Oct. 18 at the Verizon Wireless Theater in Houston. ACU is competing in the "Documentary – Cultural/Historical" category, which has five nominees.

"This is a fitting tribute to a wonderful film that tells a great story about a world-class sculpture honoring a generous Christian lady," said Dr. John Tyson, ACU vice president for development. "Congratulations to Ron Hadfield and Martin Perry on a job well done."

Hadfield, the film's producer, serves as ACU's assistant vice president for university communication. The film's director/photographer/editor is Martin Perry, production manager at Phillips Productions Inc. of Dallas, Texas. Earlier this year, "The Making of Jacob’s Dream" was a four-time winner in the 28th annual Telly Awards. Previous ACU films by Hadfield and Perry in recent years have won four other Tellys and an international silver medal from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.

Jacob's Dream was created by Jack Maxwell, ACU professor and chair of art and design, to recognize a $26.5 million bequest in 1998 from Grace L. Woodward and the Woodward family of Kerrville, Texas, one of the 10 largest private gifts in the history of higher education in Texas.

Two years in the making, the documentary traces the teamwork of sculptors, stone masons and other artisans who worked around the clock to prepare the sculpture for installation and dedication Sept. 9, 2006, at ACU's Centennial Birthday Celebration. They fought to overcome weather-, production- and engineering-related delays, and completed work just hours before the dedication ceremony.

The 28-minute HD film can be viewed on the university's iTunes site at www.acu.edu/itunes and at www.acu.edu/aboutacu/jacobsdream/video.html.
