ACU alumnus and well-known artist to perform at ACU, Feb. 18

On Monday, Feb. 18, Rolando Diaz will perform with five other men and women during Abilene Christian University's Black History Month Celebration Chapel in Moody Coliseum.
The Afro-Cuban Cultural Experience begins at 11 a.m., and will include an authentic African drummer and four a capella singers. During the performance, Diaz will create an entire work of art, starting from a blank canvas. The singers will lead worship, mixing performance songs, spirituals and songs with which the audience can sing along.
In the past, Diaz's performance art pieces have sold for as much as $25,000. At the end of Chapel, Diaz's work will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to fund an ACU Spring Break Campaign serving AIDS-infected children in Mexico City.
Diaz, who received ACU's Distinguished Alumni Award in Nov. 2007, has been performing for five years in an underground theater called
Euforialive.
Also on Monday, Diaz will perform a similar show for ACU's LYNAY group, a multicultural student organization that focuses on discovering the essence of leadership through service and community-building.
