Riley Named New ACU Student Life VPPosted July 28, 2014
Chris Riley, J.D., has been chosen to serve as Abilene Christian University’s vice president of student life. His selection comes following a thorough and prayerful national search.
“ACU was able to attract a number of highly qualified candidates,” says ACU executive vice president Dr. Allison Garrett. “In the end, we found the right person to fill the position was already working right here among us. Riley is a talented, spiritually mature leader who will do great things working with our Student Life professionals and the student body.”
He is a 2000 ACU graduate who earned his Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2003. Riley has worked as an attorney and, since joining ACU, served in a variety of staff and faculty positions: as associate general counsel and legal compliance coordinator since 2006, and as an adjunct faculty member who has taught in the Department of Political Science and the Honors College since 2008. Riley is a member of the Student Life Behavior Intervention Team, has assisted with annual revision of the student handbook, and has represented the administration as its liaison to the Student Disciplinary Review Board.
“This is truly an honor,” says Riley. “My wife, Rachel, and I love ACU and we believe its unique Christ-centered community provides unlimited opportunities to strengthen faith-forming relationships both in and out of the classroom. I’m humbled by the opportunity to lead those in Student Life and simply want to be a good steward of the work God has given me to do.”
“The vice president of student life serves a vital role to the students of our university,” says Students’ Association president Rodney Johnson. “Chris has the leadership, intelligence and compassion required to lead in this area and I believe God has been shaping and preparing him specifically for this position. I’m truly excited to partner with Chris in the positive direction he plans to lead our student body.”
Riley takes the reins from interim dean of student life Dr. Jan Meyer. Meyer will continue to serve ACU as the executive director of the Center for Christian Service and Leadership.
