Wages honored for service to TX families

Posted April 22, 2014

Dr. Steve Wages, associate professor of family studies, received the Moore-Bowman Award from the Texas Council on Family Relations (TCFR) at the organization's annual conference in early April. The association's most prestigious award is given to an individual who has demonstrated "outstanding and continuing support of family well-being in the state of Texas."

As past chair of the Department of Sociology and Family Studies and family studies program director, Wages revised the curriculum of the family studies program, which led to its certification as an Approved Academic Program by the National Council on Family Relations in 2007.

In recognizing Wages, the Texas Council noted the program's growth from 17 student majors in 2003 to more than 100 majors today, as well as his work with churches and community organizations to strengthen the quality of life for Texas families. Wages is also a Certified Family Life Educator and a Certified Public Accountant who has taught at ACU since 1997 and served on the TCFR Board of Directors since 1998.
