Expert on quantum optics, computing to lecture on campus

Posted September 24, 2013

Dr. Carlos Stroud, professor in the Institute of Optics and Department of Physics at the University of Rochester, will lecture on campus Oct. 1-2.

Stroud is a world-renowned leader in the fields of quantum optics and laser science. He also is a Distinguished Traveling Lecturer for the Division of Laser Science of the American Physical Society, having lectured at more than 75 universities.

Stroud’s most recent discovery includes the first observation of a spatially localized electron wave packet within an atom. Currently, he is working on the production of quantum states of light and quantum information.

During his time in Abilene, Stroud will deliver a lecture to students and faculty in the Department of Engineering and Physics. He also will lead a community lecture Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in Walling Lecture Hall, located in the Foster Science Building.
