ACU to offer two new grad programs at CitySquare for Fall 2014
Posted May 03, 2013Beginning in the Fall of 2014, ACU will offer two new graduate programs through ACU at CitySquare in Dallas: a Master of Marriage and Family Therapy with an emphasis in Medical Family Therapy and a one-year post-baccalaureate Dietetic Internship.
ACU at CitySquare is a partnership between ACU and a non-profit community service organization located in downtown Dallas. "The partnership between ACU and CitySquare provides the location and occasion for a transformative educational experience across multiple disciplines," says Dr. Stephen Johnson, dean of the Honors College and director of the Office of CitySquare Programs.
Pending final approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), ACU plans to offer these graduate programs to students at the CitySquare location. Both programs will place ACU students on the front lines of urban poverty and allow them to experience the crossroads of classroom learning and ministry.
"CitySquare adds tremendous value to these programs," says Brandon Lemley, ACU's director of Graduate Marketing." Through ACU’s partnership with CitySquare, students in these programs will have direct interaction with those who are most in need. It also paves the way for some highly unique internship opportunities that are not available at other schools anywhere else in the country.”
About the MFT Program
The Master of Marriage and Family Therapy with an emphasis in Medical Family Therapy is a 60-hour master’s-level degree designed to prepare students for licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). The program can be completed in two years by full-time students and in three years by part-time students. It will include traditional MFT coursework as well coursework emphasizing illness and disability across the lifespan; collaboration with healthcare systems and medical doctors; and focused internships in medical
settings.
Classes will be offered face-to-face in Dallas at CitySquare and over video conference from faculty in Abilene. Clinical experiences will prepare students for work in hospitals, medical practices, community mental health clinics, Veterans Administration hospitals and private practice.
