ACU celebrates Veterans Day with tributePosted November 07, 2012
ACU will honor those who have served our nation's military with its annual Veterans Day Tribute on Monday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. during chapel in Moody Coliseum. The building, surrounded by more than five dozen American flags supplied for the occasion by Prosperity Bank, shouldn't be hard to spot.
The tribute will include a welcome from Dr. Phil Schubert, president of the university; an invocation by Staff Sgt. Chester Foster, a Korean War veteran; a performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "In Remembrance" by ACU's A Cappella Chorus; and a video tribute to veteran Lonnie Milstead. ACU's Grand Chorus will sing “A Tribute to the Armed Services," during which veterans will stand to be honored.
Jim Holmans, executive assistant to chancellor Royce Money, retired from the U.S. Air Force in the rank of colonel after a career of 30 years. “Since coming to ACU in 1998, I have seen the high regard that the community has always had for our men and women in uniform," he said. "I am so grateful that the sacrifices our veterans have made are being remembered by the students, faculty and staff of this university, as well as by the citizens of Abilene and the Big Country.”
The event is free and open to the public. It will be available via live streaming at acu.edu/live.
