Honors College announces new Office of Major Scholarships

Posted November 02, 2012

ACU's Honors College has announced the new Office of Major Scholarships to provide students with information, counsel and support when applying for nationally competitive major scholarships and fellowships. In addition to the new office, an Honors colloquium focusing on major scholarships will be offered next semester.

Dr. Jason Morris, associate dean of the Honors College, will direct the Office of Major Scholarships and teach the colloquium. Morris has lectured and conducted research in Hungary as a two-time Fulbright grantee. In addition, he has coauthored The Best Scholarships for the Best Students, a book designed to assist students in locating and applying for prestigious opportunities, including such fellowships as Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Fulbright, Udall, Goldwater, Gates Cambridge and Mitchell. Morris' course will cover much of the same material, including interviewing, personal statements, resume building and graduate school prep.

This semester, four Honors students, with the help of the Honors College, applied for the Fulbright Student Program, which provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or English Teaching Assistantships. Candidates submit a Statement of Grant Purpose defining activities to take place during one academic year in a country outside the U.S. These applications are the forerunners of many to come.

The Office of Major Scholarships will be located in Zellner Hall Room 108. Although housed in the Honors College, the office will provide services to the entire ACU student body.
