JMC alumnus named director for CBS RadioPosted September 17, 2012
Byron "Ron" Harrell ('87), alumnus of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, has been named the Director of Music Programming for CBS Radio’s Dallas-Fort Worth stations. He will serve as program director for KVIL-FM (Lite 103.7) and KLUV-FM (98.7 KLUV). In addition, he will provide strategic guidance for all CBS Radio Dallas music brands.
"I’m honored to be a member of this team,” Harrell says, “and this will be fun. We’re going to roll up our sleeves, play the hits, and create great ear candy for our listeners."
As a JMC alumnus, Harrell has used his education at ACU to build a successful career in the radio industry. Harrell began his journey in radio 25 years ago as a student working with The Optimist. He was honored in 2006 with ACU's prestigious Gutenberg Award, given annually to a journalism alumnus who has made a significant contribution to the field.
Post-graduation, Harrell led programming departments at radio stations in Detroit, Denver, Nashville and Jackson, Miss. These positions gave him the extensive on-air and managerial experience necessary for his new position at CBS.
“Ron is uniquely qualified to lead the very talented teams at our music stations,” says Brian Purdy, market manager for CBS Radio Dallas-Fort Worth. “He brings a wealth of creative ideas and a lot of energy to this position.”
