University counselor presents at equine therapy conference

Posted April 05, 2012

Last week, Steve Eller, staff therapist at the ACU Counseling Center and certified equine therapist, presented at the 13th annual Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) conference in Las Vegas. More than 500 professionals, some traveling from Belgium, Israel, Australia, Canada and Mexico, were in attendance.

"It was an honor to represent ACU during the three-day conference as a leader in an alternative yet beneficial approach to therapy and learning," says Eller. "We were able to connect with counselors from other counseling centers on college campuses and share about our program."

EAGALA is an international non-profit organization providing training, resources and information on equine therapy. Eller spoke on the implementation of EAGALA training and programs into a university setting. He has used EAGALA's training materials to begin ACU's Equine Assisted Counseling and Learning program, which began in Spring 2010.
