Grad School of Theology professor writes new works
Posted March 05, 2012Dr. Frederick Aquino, professor in ACU's Graduate School of Theology, has a new book coming out in May. An Integrative Habit of Mind: John Henry Newman on the Path to Wisdom will be published by Northern Illinois University Press. The book examines the life of the religious figure and educator, using themes from Newman's work to show how he cultivated learning. It also makes the case that today's educators should focus less on state-of-the-art teaching techniques and prescribed learning outcomes, and more on the cognitive formation of their students. Aquino emphasizes the importance of integration - the ability to fit disparate pieces of data together and draw conclusions from the whole picture, rather than isolated statements.
Aquino has also contributed chapters to two new theology books, The Spiritual Senses (published in November by Cambridge University Press) and The Philokalia: A Classical Text of Orthodox Spirituality (out in May from Oxford University Press). In both books, Aquino contributes a chapter on Maximus the Confessor, a Christian monk, scholar, and theologian.
