ACU announces 2012 Summit schedulePosted February 17, 2012
Abilene Christian University has announced the 2012 Summit schedule and released a video about the event. This year's theme is "Intimacy: Return to God," focusing on the story of Hosea and how it relates to society. Featured speakers include Walter Brueggemann, Elaine Heath and Dallas Willard. Summit will be held Sept. 16-19 on ACU's campus.
Walter Brueggemann, retired professor of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary, focuses his study on Old Testament theology. He has more than 58 published books, most recently The Practice of the Prophetic Imagination, released in January.
Elaine Heath is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church and McCreless associate professor of evangelism at Southern Methodist University. She has been asked to speak about her book The Gospel According to Twilight: Women, Sex and God.
Dallas Willard, professor in the School of Philosophy at the University of Southern California and a best-selling author, will speak on his book Knowing Christ Today, published in May 2009.
Well-known Church of Christ ministers Mitch Wilburn, Jerry Taylor, Colin Packer, Chris Goldman and Jeff Christian have been invited to speak and provide further insight on the scripture of Hosea. Summit will also feature an iron pour, a slam poetry concert, concerts featuring M.A. Double and The Light Parade, and a screening of FilmFest entries.
