Sophomore participates in PGA Tour event

According to the Abilene Reporter News, ACU sophomore Alex Carpenter shot a 12-over-par 82 during the first round of his first PGA Tour event on Thursday — good for next to last at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. After playing practice rounds with Bubba Watson, Stephen Ames and Rickie Fowler, last year's PGA Tour rookie of the year, earlier in the week, Carpenter found himself practicing on the putting green Thursday morning talking to Phil Mickelson, who congratulated him for winning the Phil Mickelson Award — given to the best freshman golfer in NCAA Division II — last year.
