Alum named Entrepreneur of the Year by NAFE

Posted December 07, 2011

ACU alumna Elise Mitchell ('83) has been named Entrepreneur of the Year by the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE). She was also one of 11 women to receive a 2011 Women of Excellence Award from NAFE.

The NAFE is one the nation's largest associations for female professionals. Mitchell received the award for her leadership in building Mitchell Communications Group from a sole proprietorship to a national, award-winning, certified women-owned business.

Mitchell could not have foreseen receiving honors of this caliber during her years as a student in ACU's Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. Upon moving to Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1995, she single-handedly formed Mitchell Communications Group.

"Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart," says Mitchell. "It's all about your reputation."

Over the course of Mitchell Communication's 16 years in business, the agency has grown from a one-woman operation to a company with more than 60 employees and $10 million in annual gross revenue. Among Mitchell's clients: Walmart, Tyson Foods, Sam's Club and Hilton Hotels, to name a few.

Mitchell encourages students to make the most of their time at ACU. She says her undergraduate years prepared her "exceptionally well" for the career she has pursued.  She hopes the NAFE award will further her business success and allow Mitchell Communications to be a leading source for corporate communications.
