At Math Camp elementary students play, learn

Posted May 19, 2011

ACU's Department of Teacher Education will host elementary-age students on campus June 13-16 for ACU Math Camp, led by ACU faculty and Teacher Education students.

The department will begin by conducting student assessments by appointment on Thursday, June 9. The camp will run the following week – Monday, June 13 through Thursday, June 16. ACU teacher education students will tutor and teach math in small group settings from 9:30-11 a.m. each day.

"These small group settings promote student discourse in this content area," says Mitzi Adams, director of professional development and field experiences in ACU’s Department of Teacher Education and organizer of the camp. "During the hour and a half, students will receive instruction and practice by playing games and writing, modeling, explaining, constructing, and reflecting on learning."

Math Camp is accepting camper sign-ups from students going into grades one through five. The cost is $40. For more information, contact Mitzi Adams at (325) 674-2114 or mja07a@acu.edu.
