Dr. Beck's new book fuses psychology and theology

Posted June 07, 2011

Dr. Richard Beck, associate professor of psychology and chair of the Department of Psychology at ACU, has published a new book, "Unclean: Meditations on Purity, Hospitality, and Mortality."

The book has been published under Cascade Books, the most selective of the four imprints of Wipf and Stock Publishers. The publisher's book description calls Unclean "an unprecedented fusion of psychological science and theological scholarship," in which Beck "describes the pernicious (and largely unnoticed) effects of the psychology of purity upon the life and mission of the church."

Cascade publishes academic books that appeal to a broad audience. Beck emphasizes what an honor it is to work with this publisher.

"One of the exciting things about this press is that Cascade is recognized as one of the leading theological publishers in the world," said Beck. "The authors they work with, like Stanley Hauerwas and John Milbank, are world-renowned theologians."
