Senior art students going out with a Pop!Posted January 20, 2011
To get ahead, artists have got to stand out. They've got to know how to make their work pop. Five ACU seniors in the Department of Art and Design are showing off and standing out in their art show, "Pop!", this Friday, January 21.
The collaborative show will feature the work of Annika Ringle, Sara Morris and Will Reid, studio art majors, and graphic design majors Bonni Wattigney and Katherine Seibert.
Ringle, the originator of the show's theme, says it was inspired by an exhibition by Dada artist Man Ray. He invited gallery-goers to interact in his exhibition by popping balloons that revealed his artwork.
Likewise, the students are making their show about more than just a viewing of art on the wall. In fact, the first 100 attendees at the opening will take home original artwork from one of the five artists.
"We like the idea of people getting to not only see the art but touch it and connect with it," says Ringle. "We want people to be able to carry a piece of this experience away with them."
Weeks of brainstorming and good old elbow grease have gone into preparing the Shore Art Gallery to feature the five artists' work.
"We've put so much effort into making the opening of this show a complete experience – to make the gallery feel like a fun, unique environment," says Morris. "We think it'll be an event to remember."
The show opens Friday, Jan. 21, 7-9 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
