Physical Resources team integrates iPads into ACU maintenance work

Posted December 16, 2010

Heaters give out. Pipes burst. Doors come off their hinges.

When things break on campus, who gets the call? At ACU, it's the Physical Resources team, and now its members will be able to respond with greater efficiency than ever before.

A total of 17 Apple iPads are now in the hands of Physical Resources technicians. They have also received instruction that will allow them to begin immediately improving their work performance.

"The really cool thing is that each technician will be equipped in the field with all building drawings, technical schematics, underground utility maps, and technical manuals," says Scot Colley, director of ACU's Physical Resources. "It will make our department more efficient, reduce errors, and better equip our technicians."

The devices will allow members of the Physical Resources team to receive work orders – even to search for and order parts – completely on-site.

"No other maintenance organization in the world is doing this and we hope to stay ahead of the curve," says Colley. "This is just the tip of the iceberg. This program has huge potential. It will only continue to grow."
