Students and alumni run in White Rock MarathonPosted December 09, 2010
ACU students and alumni were part of the more than 20,000 runners participating in the Dallas White Rock Marathon last weekend. This is the second year ACU has sponsored participation in the race, through the Students’ Association.
“Being a part of the race offers a great opportunity for current students and alumni to meet up and be encouraged by one another, while staying active,” says Farron Salley, junior advertising and public relations major from Fort Worth. “I had people that I've never met before approach me and say they went to ACU or have a child that goes there, and that always makes me proud to be a student.”
ACU had more than 150 students, alumni and friends of the university participate in the race.
Participants from ACU received an ACU running shirt to wear during the race and were invited to a pre-race dinner the evening before the race at the university's Dallas campus.
"I trained with several other students that all ran,” says Houston Beasley, senior accounting major from McKinney. “It was great to be wearing an ACU T-shirt because you recognize people, and people recognize you. That was a big motivator for me."
The Dallas White Rock Marathon offers options to run in the marathon, half marathon, five-person relay, SMU Cox Corporate Relay Challenge or Mayor's 5K. The course begins and ends near downtown Dallas.
