Undefeated Wildcats ranked No. 2 in the nation
Posted November 01, 2010The Abilene Christian University Wildcats won once again 33-20, defeating the Angelo State Rams this past weekend at Shotwell Stadium. ACU quarterback Mitchell Gale completed 27 of 41 passes for 377 yards and four touchdowns in the game.
With the victory, the undefeated Wildcats are ranked No. 2 in the latest American Football Coaches' Association NCAA Division II poll, which was released Monday.
The Wildcats scored touchdowns on their first and last drives of the second quarter in taking a 16-7 halftime lead. ACU blew the game open near the end of the third quarter when Gale completed a pass to wide receiver Edmund Gates, who ran for a 55-yard touchdown.
Now 9-0 on the season and 5-0 in the Lone Star Conference South Division, the Wildcats can wrap up their second LSC championship in the last three seasons with a win Saturday against West Texas A&M University (6-2). The game will be Saturday, Nov. 6, at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium in Canyon, Texas, at 6 p.m.
