Posted October 22, 2010

ACU’s student newspaper The Optimist is one of the top three in the nation, according to the Society of Professional Journalists. At the 2010 SPJ Convention & National Journalism Conference, the 2009 Optimist staff was awarded a Mark of Excellence as a finalist in the Best Non-Daily Newspaper category.

OptimistLinda Bailey, Optimist editor and manager of the JMC Network, accepted the award at the Mark of Excellence Awards Luncheon in Las Vegas on behalf of the staff.

“I’m really proud of my staff this year and the staff we had last year,” says Bailey. “It’s always nice to be able to accept awards and be recognized for all the hard work we put in. This award makes us proud and helps us feel like that hard work is paying off.”

This spring, the newspaper earned first-place honors in Region 8, winning the opportunity to compete at the national level. The national Mark of Excellence Award judges chose one national winner in each category and two national finalists.
