Antique Roadshow host Lark Mason to speak on campus

Posted October 08, 2010

Antique Roadshow host Lark Mason will be on campus Monday, Oct. 11, and Tuesday, Oct. 12, to share his know-how with students in ACU's Department of Art and Design and College of Business Administration.

"When I was a student in college, I could not imagine that anyone would pay me to look at and handle art. Today, that's what I do," says Mason, a successful entrepreneur and specialist in art and antiquities. "I want students to know that choosing a career involves being pragmatic, asking 'Can I get a job in this field of study?' but also taking a bigger view of yourself, looking at your interests and talents, and aligning those with the opportunities that exist in the marketplace."

Mason has a wide variety of experiences to impart to students. He has served as a regular host of The Antique Roadshow on PBS; president, CEO and founder of iGavel Inc., the nation's leading independent online antiquities auction firm; former senior vice president of Sothebys, the auction house in London and New York; and is the author of numerous articles on Asian art and the acclaimed guide Asian Art.

Mason also travels extensively in search of special pieces of art and antiques for display and sale. Students can benefit from his stories of success and setbacks as both an entrepreneur and an appreciator of art.

Mason and his wife, Erica, have three children - Joanna, Lark and Melissa - two of whom attend ACU.
