Undefeated Wildcats ranked No. 5 in the nation

The Abilene Christian University Wildcats held their own Saturday at Shotwell Stadium in a 47-7 victory over Lone Star Conference rivals East Central University. ACU quarterback Mitchell Gale threw a career-best five touchdown passes and finished his night midway through the third quarter after completing 23 of 32 passes for 263 yards.

ACU FootballWith the victory, the undefeated Wildcats are ranked No. 5 in the latest American Football Coaches' Association NCAA Division II poll, which was released Monday.

The Wildcat offense finished Saturday’s game with a season-best 559 yards (308 passing, 251 rushing), while the ACU defense limited East Central University to a meager 119 yards of total offense, including just 39 yards on their final 52 plays of the game.

Now 3-0 on the season, the Wildcats turn their attention to the Texans of Tarleton State University (0-3). The teams will face off Saturday, Sept. 25, in Abilene at Shotwell Stadium at 6 p.m.
