Kirk Goodwin 5K race to honor the memory of beloved alum

Posted April 20, 2010

Jenny BizaillionTo know Jenny (Ross '01) Bizaillion was to love her. She died on Feb. 23 after a sudden illness that came out of nowhere - one that took her life and robbed her extended family of a wife, mother and daughter. The loss left Jenny's loved ones with a mountain of medical bills.

The 27th Annual Kirk Goodwin 5K Run, sponsored by Galaxy Social Club, will be held this Saturday, April 24. The race, set to start at 8 a.m., takes the runners and walkers from the Administration Building through University Hills subdivision and back. The $15 registration fee includes a T-shirt and may be paid online at the Abilene Runners website, Rab's Shoes; in the Campus Center; or on race day.

All funds raised this year will go to help establish a college fund for Jenny's middle school-aged daughter.

"Having Jenny and her family in mind will be a tremendous motivator for students this weekend," says organizer Wilson Rotenberry. "When you have in mind the hurt of someone else and a need you can related to, it gives you a powerful incentive to participate and to do your best."

Schlotzsky's plans to open a store on Judge Ely next month and will give free sandwich coupons to male and female winners in 10 different age categories. Door prizes will be given at the end of the race.
