ACU's Hunter Welcome Center nominated for Event Site of the YearPosted January 22, 2010 The newest addition to Abilene Christian University's campus, the Bob and Shirley Hunter Welcome Center, has been named a finalist for national recognition as Event Site of the Year by Event Solutions magazine.
"It is an honor to be named a finalist for such a prestigious award," said Jennifer Ellison, director of events at Abilene Christian University. "The Hunter Welcome Center is the youngest venue in the category, being open only a year, and to be chosen as a finalist with event giants like the Biltmore Hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel and Ellis Island is an accomplishment all on its own."
The Event Solutions Spotlight Awards is the event industry's most comprehensive awards program. In the category of Event Site of the Year, finalists were selected from more than 600 nominations from event locations around the world.
"The Hunter Welcome Center is quickly becoming Abilene's premiere event venue and this nomination furthermore solidifies our mission to be a service oriented facility with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere where guests feel appreciated every step of the way," said Ellison.
A 57,000 square foot, $15.7 million facility, the Hunter Welcome Center was completed in early 2009. It is a place for current students and alumni to gather, as well as an ideal site for community events.
ACU's event staff will travel to Las Vegas for the awards presentation at the Event Solutions Conference and Tradeshow in March.
