New York Times bestselling authors Donald Miller and Kathleen Norris will be among several featured speakers at Abilene Christian University's 92nd annual Summit Sept. 20-23.
This year's theme is "On the Mountain with God: Exodus Expedition." Students, church leaders, faculty and visitors will gather on ACU's campus for conversation about real world issues discussed from the perspective of faith. All events are open to the community.
"You are invited to join the expedition through the ancient wilderness trails and to experience life with God on the mountain," said Brady Bryce, director of Ministry Events. "On the mountain, Moses received his call to return, going back to Egypt and then back to the mountain to worship God. The conversations with God on the mountain established God's name, identified the people, pointed people into covenant promises and launched them back into the world and down the mountain."
Summit participants will explore the mountains of Exodus in seven theme conversations at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. The theme speakers are preachers from across the nation, including Fate Hagood, Mike Cope, Joshua Graves, Bert Reynolds, Glenn Pemberton, David Holmes and Chris Smith. Additionally, hundreds of class conversations exploring real-life ministry will be led by experts, lay people, scholars, ministers and students. Three featured guest presenters will bring distinctive viewpoints from their life journeys.
On Monday, Sept. 21, Carlos Sepulveda, CEO and president of Interstate Battery System International, will share practical advice on being "in the world but not of the world" from his business experience.
Kathleen Norris, award-winning poet, speaker and author of several New York Times bestsellers, will speak on her newest book, Acedia & Me: A Marriage, Monks and a Writer's Life, Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Donald Miller, author of the New York Times bestselling memoir Blue Like Jazz, will be on ACU campus Wednesday, Sept. 23, to talk about his experience as documented in his new book, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years.
This year's Summit also will include performances by a number of musical groups, including the Southwestern Christian College Choir, New Reign from Oklahoma Christian University and the South African Outreach Project, the OC Summer Singers band, Abilene's own The Rocketboys and the ACU Music Department.
"Summit stands in this tradition of bringing the world together in community including neighbors, students, faculty, Christians and church leaders in the name of Jesus Christ," said Bryce. "The youthful vitality of all ages of people passionate about serving Christ has returned."
