ACU presents Henry IV at Abilene Shakespeare Festival

Members of the Abilene Christian University and Abilene communities are coming together again to present the work of William Shakespeare during the annual Abilene Shakespeare Festival. This year's production "Henry IV, Part One," will be directed by Adam Hester, chair of ACU's Department of Theatre.

"At a time when many families feel they cannot afford to attend the theatre, this is a welcomed opportunity for patrons from all economic levels. We see the importance of this work in the community and find this free gift to be a rewarding experience," said Hester. "By exposing our community to Shakespeare and other exciting works, we can give our audiences a wider view of humanity. That's what makes art so important in our culture."

For all Shakespeare Festival productions, the actors and behind-the-scenes workers are students, faculty and staff at ACU, as well as members of the Abilene community, said Hester.

Shows will be held in Fulks Theatre in ACU's Williams Performing Arts Center, June 25, 26, 27 and July 2 and 3. Each show begins at 7:30 p.m., with a short preshow presentation at 7:15 p.m.

Tickets are free, but must be reserved. Call 325-674-ARTS (674-2787) to reserve them, beginning June 8. The box office is open 1-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

The Shakespeare Festival is made possible by the Bill and Ann Bradshaw Stokes Endowment for Theatre, a grant from the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council and a grant from the Women for ACU.
