ACU recognized for innovation by national CIO magazine

CIO 100CIO magazine announced Abilene Christian University as a recipient of the 2009 CIO 100 award. The 22nd annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT). ACU was one of only six universities named to this prestigious list. Other recipients include AT&T, Dell, GE Energy, IBM and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

"We are thrilled to be included on the CIO 100 list," said Kevin Roberts, associate vice president of operations and CIO at ACU. "We are proud of our innovations in the area of Mobile Learning. There is no way we could have accomplished this without great partners like Apple, AT&T, Google and Sungard. We hope that our work will serve as a platform for all higher education."

The recipients of this year's CIO 100 award were selected from hundreds of corporations and organizations worldwide. Each company was selected for their innovative practices in both business and IT. A team of judges reviewed the applications, looking for unique practices and substantial results.

"This year's CIO 100 awards draw well-deserved attention to companies that are both innovating and creating business value with IT despite the economic downturn," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of CIO magazine & Events. "These winners are an inspiration to businesses everywhere."

CIO magazine produces content and community resources for information technology executives.

This award is one of many ACU has received for its innovation in Mobile Learning. In fall 2008, ACU was the first university to initiate a mobile learning program by providing an Apple iPhone or iPod touch to all incoming freshmen to integrate technology and learning both in and out of the classroom.
