ACU students tour state capitol with Fannin Elementary fourth grade
Recently, student members of Abilene Christian University's Jack Pope Fellows Program and Pi Sigma Honor society, partnered with fourth grade students from Fannin Elementary School and toured the capitol in Austin.
"The trip was possible because of the dedicated fourth grade teachers of Fannin Elementary School, the volunteers from Abilene Christian University chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha and the Jack Pope Fellows Program," said Dr. David Dillman, professor of political science at ACU. "Generous grants were provided by the ACU Students' Association and Pi Sigma Alpha, the Political Science National Honor Society."
While in Austin, the students visited the state capitol, where State Rep. Susan King met the group, provided lunch and escorted them to the floor of the House of Representatives. The students also toured the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, where they viewed two multimedia presentations: "The Star of Destiny" and "Texas the Big Picture."
The Jack Pope Fellows Program is a public service leadership program at ACU named in honor of Judge Jack Pope, retired Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court.
