ACU running back, Bernard Scott, favored to win Harlon Hill Trophy

Barnard ScottAmong a list of 13 quarterbacks, five running backs, three receivers, a defensive tackle, a linebacker and a cornerback, Abilene Christian's running back Barnard Scott is the favorite to win the 2008 Harlon Hill Trophy as Division II College Football Player of the Year. Scott is one of 24 candidates up for the NCAA honor, announced Nov. 6.

Scott was named as the runner-up for the 2007 Harlon Hill Trophy. Since then Scott has put together a season that has made him the favorite to win the 2008 Harlon Hill Trophy. Scott leads the nation in touchdowns (24), scoring (144 points), points per game (16.0) and all-purpose yards per game (237.9). Scott is second in the nation in rushing yards per game (166.0), and he is third in the nation in total rushing yards (1,494).

Scott has led the Wildcats to a 10-0 record, an LSC Championship, No. 1 ranking in NCAA Division II Super Region Four and No. 2 ranking in national polls.

Six players from all four Division II Super Regions are placed on a ballot for regional voting. The top two players from each region will advance to the national ballot. Voting concludes Nov.14.

The National Harlon Hill Award Committee will present the Player of the Year trophy to the winner at the 23rd annual Harlon Hill Trophy Presentation Banquet on Friday, Dec. 12, in Florence, Ala., following the national championship game.
