ACU "Parents of the Year" recognized for hospitality and enthusiasm

Posted September 17, 2008 Ellison-parentsAbilene Christian University will recognize this year's "Parents of the Year" in chapel on Friday, Sept. 19. Charles and Janine Ellison of Van, Texas, are both graduates of ACU and were nominated by their three children, Jennifer, Spencer and Jessica, all of whom attended or are currently attending Abilene Christian University.

For the past decade, Charles and Janine have recruited many students from their small town by sharing their experiences at ACU with them, and encouraging students to consider it in their college plans.

"They both graduated from ACU and had built many long-lasting relationships and had learned valuable life-lessons, and wanted the same experiences in a Christian environment for their children,” said Jessica Ellison, junior accounting major, in her nomination letter. "At that point in time, there weren't recruiters who came to Van, so in order for students to hear how great ACU was, my parents invited high school kids into their home. As a result, many students from our small town enrolled at ACU and became great Christian leaders."

A reception will be held honoring the Ellisons in the Living Room of the McGlothlin Campus Center immediately following chapel.
