Texas A&M University's Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering recently honored Jim Porter, Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Abilene Christian University, with its Outstanding Former Student Award. The award is given to former Texas A&M University students who have had a successful career achieved with integrity, brought honor to the university and department and been an outstanding role model for current and future students."Jim's award is testimony to his outstanding competence and character, resulting in a lifetime of accomplishment," said Dr. Rick Lytle, dean of the College of Business Administration at ACU. "Having an individual of Jim's talent on our faculty has already brought great rewards to the students of Abilene Christian University and the city of Abilene. We are privileged to have him as part of our team."
Earlier this year, Porter was named the first Entrepreneur-in-Residence by the College of Business Administration at ACU.
"Through his distinguished career, Jim has brought honor to the department and to Texas A&M University," said Brett Peters, head of Texas A&M University's Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.
Porter has served in the technology industry, community and professional activities, participating in more than 30 mergers, and accounting for more than 25 CEOs in his employ over the last 20 years. As the CEO and President of Triad Systems, Porter served in executive roles in two successful start-up businesses, was on the board and executive committee of the Information Technology Association of America and served for 10 years on the AICPA Accounting Standards Executive Committee for the Software Industry.
Porter earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University in 1958.
