ACU community spends day serving others
Abilene Service DayApril 21, 2008

Last Saturday, ACU students, faculty and staff set aside time to serve the Abilene community for the 9th annual "ACU for Abilene" service day, the Kirk Goodwin Run and Special Olympics.

This year's "ACU for Abilene" included more than 100 participants helping at various sites around the community. The event, organized by members of the Service Action Leadership Team (SALT), is designed to bring together members of the ACU family for a day of giving back to their community. Volunteers helped ACU neighbors with house painting, cleaning yards, hauling limbs and building fences. Participants also helped with projects at Dyess Elementary School, Abilene Adult Daycare, and Global Samaritan Resources, among other acts of service.

Earlier in the day, more than 200 runners participated in the annual Kirk Goodwin Run sponsored by Galaxy Social Club. The Annual Special Olympics track meet also was held at Elmer Gray Stadium and many ACU student-athletes helped with the event.
