National analyst Michael Barone to speak at Economic Outlook Luncheon, Feb. 11
Michael BaroneSenior writer for U.S. News and World Report Michael Barone will speak at the annual Economic Outlook Luncheon Monday, Feb. 11. The Center for Building Community at Abilene Christian University is hosting the event.

"The Economic Outlook Luncheon has become a great way for bringing the Abilene business community together at the beginning of a new year to reflect on the factors that influence the economy both locally and nationally," said Dr. Gary McCaleb, vice president of ACU and executive director of the Center for Building Community.

The luncheon centers around the Center for Building Community's mission to propose solutions to the crises of community that exist at all levels of society. As a part of this mission, Ray Ferguson, who has served as chairman of the Development Corporation of Abilene for the past year, will provide a perspective on the local economy, and Barone will speak on "The Economy and the Presidency."

Barone has written several books on American politics, including Our Country: The Shaping of America From Roosevelt to America, Hard America, Soft America: Competition vs. Coddling and the Competition for the Nation's Future and The New Americans: How the Melting Pot Can Work Again.

"With this year being a presidential election year, we will focus especially on the interactive relationship between the presidency and the economy," said McCaleb. "Michael Barone is generally considered one of the best analysts to provide a timely perspective on this topic."

The luncheon will be held in the Teague Special Events Center at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $20 each or a table for eight may be reserved for $150. For reservations, call ACU's Center for Building Community at 325-674-2156.
