Jacob's Dream featured as 2007 Christmas ornament

JDream ornamentThe latest addition to the Women for Abilene Christian University (WACU) series of commemorative Christmas ornaments features one of the angels depicted in the Jacob's Dream statue, which was designed and sculpted by Abilene Christian University's Jack Maxwell, chair of the Department of Art and Design.

Jacob's Dream, an almost 40-foot bronze sculpture featuring four angels ascending and descending to heaven, was created in honor of Grace L. Woodward, a philanthropist whose gift of $26.5 million to ACU in 1998 was a large portion of the university's $100 million "To Lead and To Serve" campaign.

Jacob's Dream is a representation of the Biblical story of Jacob and his dream from Genesis 28. The sculpture sits on the east side of ACU's campus, and includes a baptismal pool and is surrounded by text-inscribed stones.

The proceeds from the sale of the ornaments benefit the WACU Scholarship Endowment Fund. Since its establishment in 1969, the Women for ACU have coordinated campus projects and invested approximately $1 million in ACU through scholarships, remodeling, landscaping and library books.

The Jacob's Dream ornament is available for $25 each. Ornaments from past years are available for $20 each and include the Administration Building (2003), Missions Globe (2004), Centennial Logo (2005) and Sewell Auditorium (2006). There are a limited number of sets of all five ornaments for $85.

The ornaments are crafted by ChemArt of Lincoln, R.I., the same manufacturer that annually produces the popular Capitol ornament series for the Texas State Preservation Board.
