Google recently named Abilene Christian University to the first Customer AdvisoryBoard (CAB) for Google Apps, a group consisting of six universities from across the nation. ACU fully deployed Google Apps for education products seven months ago.
"We are very excited that Google has asked us to join this group," said Kevin Roberts, Chief Information Officer for ACU. "The number of participating schools on this list is short and made up of some of the nation's most elite institutions."
The CAB includes ACU, as well as representatives from Arizona State University, Central Piedmont Community College, Northwestern University, the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and the University of Southern California. These members represent a cross-section of the educational community, as well as the range of institutions using Google Apps.
"We will help Google set strategic priorities for their Google Apps for Education product," said Roberts. "We feel like that this will help us continue to strengthen this valuable partnership with Google. This partnership will help us continue our course of innovative use of technology, as well as extend our influence nationally and internationally."
ACU has partnered with Google since April 11, 2007, giving students, faculty and staff access to Gmail, Google Calendar, Documents, Spreadsheets and Google Talk. Now, representatives from ACU will meet with CAB members to help Google address the needs and demands of all types of educational institutions.
Google officially announced the members of the CAB in October at the Educause conference in Seattle.
