ACU begins new school year with 102nd opening Chapel
Abilene Christian University students, faculty and staff gathered August 27 in ACU's Moody Coliseum to mark the beginning of the 102nd school year.
C. E. "Doc" Cornutt, Chairman of the ACU Board of Trustees, challenged students for the new school year and offered words of encouragement.
"I am a product of the ACU experience, and proud of it," said Cornutt. "You have made the right choice in coming to ACU. Faith and learning is what it is all about."
Cornutt described four characteristics of the ACU experience. These characteristics include "the realization that learning never stops, understanding who we are, acknowledging that God is in control and benefitting from ACU's commitment to quality."
"Each individual student should represent what ACU is all about," said Cornutt. "Simply stated – to love, to lead, and to serve."
Those attending the ceremony enjoyed the long-standing tradition of the "Parade of Flags," in which students carry flags from every nation and state represented by ACU students, faculty or staff. In this year's parade, 48 states and nations, and more than 50 countries were represented.
Participants also joined together to sing "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name" and listen to the reading of Paul's sermon on Mars Hill.
