ACU presented with beautification award
Lunsford TrailThe Donna Albus Beautification Award was recently presented to Abilene Christian University for the great lengths taken to beautify the campus and Abilene in 2006-07.

Dr. Royce Money, ACU president, and Corey Ruff, ACU landscape/grounds manager, accepted the award during the Abilene Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours meeting May 17.

"ACU is dedicated to creating an attractive campus for students, faculty, staff, alumni, visitors and the community," said Donna Albus, award namesake & Keep Texas Beautiful board member. "Nothing is as economically beneficial to a city as businesses that are clean and beautiful. The ACU campus totally exemplifies this statement."

Albus commended ACU for its use of more than 2,000 trees on campus, the xeriscape/native plant selection, limited once weekly watering and conservation of effluent water. The campus beauty benefits the entire community, said Albus.

ACU continually works toward a green campus with updates in lighting, recycling and waste reduction. Some of ACU’s environmental initiatives include parking lot asphalt recycling, replacing older systems and equipment with new and more energy efficient systems, the maintenance of vehicles, the replacement of trucks and vans with smaller electric carts and recycling paper, plastic and aluminum cans.

This is the sixth year KAB has honored local area businesses. Keep Abilene Beautiful is affiliated with Keep Texas Beautiful and the city of Abilene.
