Abilene Christian University will present Don W. Crisp ('64) of Dallas with an Honorary Doctorate of Laws during May Commencement ceremonies May 12 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The ceremonies will be in Moody Coliseum on the ACU campus.Crisp is the chairman of The Rosewood Corporation and former chairman of the ACU Board of Trustees. The honorary doctorate will be conferred by Dr. Royce Money, ACU president, and C.E. (Doc) Cornutt, chairman of the Board of Trustees.
"With the recent completion and celebration of Abilene Christian University's 100th year anniversary, we are reminded of many individuals, men and women, who have made a significant impact to ACU's accomplishments and future vision," said Cornutt. "One of these special people is Don Crisp, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at ACU, for fifteen years, who is the epitome of humility, stability, enthusiasm and dedication. The awarding of an Honorary Doctorate to Don Crisp is well deserved. Whether in difficult circumstances or opportunity, Don's service to the University has been steadfast in giving of his talent and working hard while encouraging others."
Crisp graduated from ACU in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in accounting and business administration. As a certified public accountant, he worked for Arthur Anderson & Co. from 1964-72, and he served as senior vice president and treasurer for the Dallas Federal Savings and Loan Association from 1972-76. Crisp has worked with The Rosewood Corporation, a company that formed from the Caroline Hunt Trust Estate, since 1977.
He was appointed to the ACU Board of Trustees in 1984 and served as chairman of the board from 1992-2007. Crisp has also served on the Board of Trustees of Dallas Christian Schools. He was honored as Outstanding Alumnus of the Year by ACU in 2005.
Crisp currently serves as an elder at the Highland Oaks Church of Christ in Dallas. He and his wife Carol ('64), reside in Dallas and have three children: Lisa ('86), Brian ('88) and Brad ('93).
