In the midst of an election season, Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams will speak to the ACU community on Monday about the changing era of the voting process.
Williams' day will begin by speaking to ACU students in Chapel at 11 a.m. Immediately following Chapel, students will have the opportunity to participate in an interactive voting demonstration in the mall area. This demonstration is organized by the voter education project, VOTEXAS. This educational initiative program focuses on educating eligible voters about the voting process, and encourages voters to find out when they will vote, where they will vote and how to use the new equipment in their precincts.
"Secretary Williams' visit is a timely way to remind our students, and in fact all of us, of the importance of voting in the upcoming elections," said Dr. Gary McCaleb, vice president of ACU. "We are pleased to welcome him to ACU."
The voting machine exhibit features the five different types of electronic voting machines used in Texas. It also includes a "virtual vote" feature which gives visitors the opportunity to cast a practice ballot. All participants are eligible to sign-up for e-mail alerts and notifications of election deadlines.
Williams will end his visit after a private lunch with local dignitaries and students from the ACU student organization Lynay.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
