Soul Searching: The Religious and Spiritual Lives of American Teenagers - Christian Smith with Melinda Lundquist Denton

This book is filled with current research that may be tedious for the casual reader, but the message is so positive about the adolescents that walk through the halls of our churches.  Recent articles and the media portray these students as dissatisfied with the church and it's teachings.  This book shows a much more open and positive spirit.  It also makes a strong case in the postcript to connect teenagers and their parents and other significant adults.  The author emphasizes the importance of nurturing students within the faith community.

Hurt: Inside the World of Today's Teenangers - Chap Clark

Chap Clark went into the school system in a neighboring community to listen to the heartbeat of teenagers. He discovered students who felt abandoned by their parents, peers, and churches.  He wraps this book up with a strong charge for parents and youth ministers to re-connect with this upcoming generation.  Every youth  minister and elder should read his strategies for the church at the end of the book.

No More Lone Rangers - David Chow

David Chow has built a team in order to do youth ministry. He has condensed these helpful, practical principles into a very readable book. I would urge you to take a crash course in team development as you turn the pages.

Bringing Up Boys - James Dobson

This is one of the best new resources for a parent and son class. Dobson not only identifies reasons behind our sons' behavior, but he also guides us in how to interact with our boys. I hope he will complete this material by writing 'Bringing Up Girls.'
