Gutenberg Celebration to honor outstanding alumniPosted September 30, 2015
Three distinguished alumni of Abilene Christian University’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication will be honored at the annual Gutenberg Celebration, held each year during Homecoming. This year, the honorees are Jason McArthur (M.S. ’96) of Nashville, Dr. Michelle Morris (’87) of Houston and LaCanas Tucker (’94) of New York City.
The celebration will begin at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Hunter Welcome Center. Tickets are $40 each and may be purchased online.
“The alumni we have chosen to honor this year have shown there are many ways that a graduate of the JMC program can make an important difference in their field and in the world,” said Dr. Cheryl Mann Bacon, chair of the JMC department.
McArthur, vice president of artists and repertoire for Sony Music Entertainment’s Christian label division Provident Label Group, has worked with some of the Christian genre’s most successful artists for nearly two decades. He has helped sign, develop and guide the careers of Grammy- and Dove-Award winning artists such as Casting Crowns, Joy Williams (formerly of The Civil Wars), Brian Littrell (of Backstreet Boys) and Leeland. His projects have sold more than 15 million albums. As a songwriter, he has written multiple Top 10 radio hits, earned several Grammy and Dove nominations, and taken home two Dove Awards himself.
Morris is president, founding CEO and managing partner of GideonStone, LLC, a communication and business strategy firm based in Houston. GideonStone partners with clients to tell their stories more effectively, attract philanthropic support for clients, define and strengthen their brands, build stronger boards, and develop realistic strategic plans that guide their decision-making. Consulting on crisis communication and organizational development is also provided. GideonStone focuses on educational institutions, nonprofits and mission-based businesses, and was founded in 2011.
Tucker, internal communications lead for KPMG’s regulatory strategic growth initiative (RSGI), has worked in professional service firms in various capacities for 20 years. In her current position, she conceptualized and implemented the RSGI strategic communications initiative and is responsible for budget ownership and successful execution and measurement of programs.
She also serves as a liaison between internal stakeholders in financial services, healthcare, energy and government.
The Gutenberg Celebration takes place in the Hunter Welcome Center on Thursday of ACU’s Homecoming every year. For more information, please contact the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at 325-674-2296.
