ACU School of Social Work ranks in Top 25, named ‘best value’

Posted July 28, 2015

ACU's School of Social Work was recognized as No. 6 in The Social Work Degree Guide’s Top 25 Christian Social Work Programs for 2015 and was the third-best value in Christian social work programs, behind only Baylor and Catholic University of America.

“We are pleased with this external recognition of the quality of ACU’s social work program,” said Dr. Tom Winter, director of the School of Social Work. “We believe that our emphasis on evidence-based social work practice, coupled with our long-standing commitment to providing academically sound professional preparation in a distinctly Christian environment, makes the school an appealing choice for students.”

The academic rigor of the school’s programs, quality of curriculum, student-faculty ratios and “return on investment” based on subsequent earning records of graduates were cited as strengths of the school in the Top 25 rankings, which looked at church-affiliated social work programs throughout the United States.

The best value rankings take into consideration tuition costs, return on investment, student-faculty ratios and Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accreditation history.

ACU’s School of Social Work offers CSWE-accredited baccalaureate and master’s degree programs in social work, certificates in both Social Services Administration (graduate) and Aging Studies (undergraduate and graduate), and an undergraduate minor in Aging Studies.

In the past year, nearly 20 MSSW students and recent graduates have presented refereed presentations or papers at regional, national or international social work programs, and seven undergraduate students have been engaged in mentored research, with several presenting at regional or national meetings.
