Thompson receives book of the year awardPosted May 26, 2015 A book by Abilene Christian University Bible professor Dr. James Thompson has received the 2015 Book of the Year Award from the Academy of Parish Clergy.
The Church According to Paul, published by Baker Academic, examines Paul’s ministry of planting and nurturing churches in the pre-Christian world to offer guidance for the contemporary church. Thompson, scholar in residence at the Graduate School of Theology at ACU, shows that Paul offers an unprecedented vision of the community that is being conformed to the image of Christ.
Thompson said he wrote the book "as part of my work of contributing to the conversation between academics and practitioners, hoping that the two can learn from each other."
"We were in unanimous agreement that it is a great resource for working pastors," said Henry Coates of the Academy of Parish Clergy. "It is superlative of the best work coming out of biblical studies, because it is not written simply for the academy’s ivory tower but for the sake of the church."
In addition to teaching in ACU’s Graduate School of Theology, Thompson is editor of Restoration Quarterly, a scholarly journal devoted to advancing knowledge and understanding of New Testament Christianity, its backgrounds, its history, and its implications for the present age.
The Academy of Parish Clergy is an international organization of clergy serving in faith communities of all sizes and in a variety of locales.
