School of social work holds fall convocationPosted December 12, 2014
Over 100 local social work professionals, social service agency leaders and students participated in the ACU School of Social Work’s 2014 Fall Convocation, held on Nov. 3.
West Chester University of Pennsylvania professor emerita Mildred “Mit” Joyner delivered the first Bill Culp Endowed Lecture, titled, “The Lifespan of Social Work’s Human Growth and Development.” The Culp lecture series, named in honor of ACU professor emeritus William “Bill” Culp, facilitates interaction between internationally recognized professional social workers and students, faculty and social work practitioners in West Central Texas.
In addition to her convocation address, Joyner met with community members and students while on ACU’s campus. Joyner, past president of both the Council on Social Work Education and the Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors, was named a “modern Social Work Pioneer” by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) in 2013.
